Probably woody Allen is too cool for that shit. Or maybe too neurotic. wordvomit: how can “new york, i love you” not have woody allen as a director?  is it because he’ll smoke everyone else out of the water?  to mix metaphors.

Awkward Pet Funerals
I was watching a movie with an awkward pet funeral the other day, which made me remember the time when I was little and my (kind of sad and weird) friend had a funeral for her hamster. She’d decorated a little coffin-box with stickers and crayons, and there were pink hamster funeral cupcakes. It was all very weird. Weird is the word of the day. Weird is the new awkward. Awkward is the old...

Is there a standard symbology of threat, that is to say, a standard set of things that we find frightening in real life or in fiction? A starter set of the obvious ones: fangs, spikes, blades, sharp objects hooded eyes, evidence of an intention towards deception anything that is almost but not quite human, especially in voice or appearance dead things that come to life live things that die ...

Scared the crap out of myself last night watching Dr. Who’s “Blink.” Highly recommended, totally terrifying, basically didn’t sleep afterwards though. Now am tired and also highly caffeinated. Also, strangely sore in the ribs. I think I slept with my arms stretched out over my head and pinned there somehow. Very weird, very sleepy-ifying.

wordvomit: hi new tumblr followers! every time i get new followers, mary gets pissed at me for being more internet-popular than she is. it’s just internet popularity man, it ain’t no thang. until i broker this into a deal with a major media institution that will  legitimize my internet popularity with money! But it’s just so UNFAIR. And then you FLAUNT it, you flaunter you.

Hollister: Exactly how obscene an amount of money were you talking about? Just… profane, or really offensive?
Edward: Really offensive.
Hollister: [to himself] I like him so much.

I love falling asleep to the sound of rain on the roof (I grew up in a house with a tin roof in a place where when it rains it pours), and it hardly ever happens here, but I think it might actually be loud enough to hear tonight. :)

Although it happens fairly often, I am somehow always surprised when smart and interesting people turn out to be bad or boring writers. Side effect of the cultural perception of writing and verbal skills as the “easy” part of academia?

Meditations at Lagunitas by Robert Hass
Oh man, I love this poem. I have some other poems about blackberries, if that’s your thing. Robert Hass teaches at Berkeley. He’s a local, born and bred. wordvomit: All the new thinking is about loss. In this it resembles all the old thinking. The idea, for example, that each particular erases the luminous clarity of a general idea. That the clown- faced woodpecker probing the dead...
