fangs, spikes, blades, sharp objects
hooded eyes, evidence of an intention towards deception
anything that is almost but not quite human, especially in voice or appearance
dead things that come to life
live things that die

When I was little, I tried to make a table, but it turned out to be a man. I named him Albert and dressed him for every holiday for the next 7 years.

Super-cool cupcake portrait of Lincoln and Obama—the slideshow shows it being assembled. AWESOME.
Absolutely pouring on University Ave—the drug dealer and the crazy ladies are sharing an overhang with a guy playing the electric guitar.
I love falling asleep to the sound of rain on the roof (I grew up in a house with a tin roof in a place where when it rains it pours), and it hardly ever happens here, but I think it might actually be loud enough to hear tonight. :)

my pop psychological theory on writing
Brief clarification: by “Side effect…etc” I meant: “Is the expectation that smart people will be good at writing a side effect of…etc.”

Meditations at Lagunitas by Robert Hass
Oh man, I love this poem. I have some other poems about blackberries, if that’s your thing. Robert Hass teaches at Berkeley. He’s a local, born and bred.

All the new thinking is about loss. In this it resembles all the old thinking. The idea, for example, that each particular erases the luminous clarity of a general idea. That the clown- faced woodpecker probing the dead...
